With the new series of The School of Signs, and its accompanying web-series CodeBreakers having launched, here is what to look forward to in week one’s release…
Each week, the new resources released via The School of Signs come with a theme that will guide the learning as well as inspire an episode of ‘CodeBreakers’. On this occasion, the theme is ‘Being Around Adventures’, with the teaching looking at using British Sign Language (BSL) to hold conversations about exploring and adventuring.
The lesson is packed with resources that will improve the use of students’ BSL in a subject area that will teach them to sign about adventures they have in their lives.
In CodeBreakers, the students have access to a fictional web-series following two spies working for the agency C.L.A.S.S. (Covert Learning and School Surveillance). The show is interwoven with interactive BSL activities which relate the episode back to the lesson topic and vocabulary. Each episode applies the topic of a lesson to an exciting plot in a new setting and is full of activities that show learners fun ways to use their new skills.
This particular episode of CodeBreakers sees the star characters, Max and Evie of C.L.A.S.S., challenged with restoring information about marine safety, following the evil Victor Green hacking school servers across the country and deleting crucial information on the topic used for students to learn.
Max is sent by C.L.A.S.S. Spymaster, Hawthorne, to M.O.S.T. (Marine and Offshore Safety Training Centre) in the North East, to learn from the experts and recover the information that is required! He is put to the test in learning how to survive in extreme situations in the water, from waves, wind and rain, to escaping a submerged helicopter! Will he be able to get the job done and stop Victor Green’s menacing exploits on this occasion?
