The Hall of Fame celebrates those individuals who reflect the values here at Signature and who through their work have worked to improve deaf communications and contribute to deaf culture. The chosen individuals continue to dedicate their work to making a difference to the lives of deaf people and this is something we take pride in recognising.
James Watson O’Neill is being inducted for his commitment to improving health and wellbeing for Deaf People. Through his work as Chief Executive at SignHealth, James has been a leading figure in fostering health equity, particularly through his work to address mental health issues and domestic abuse cases. This as well as his leading contribution to accessible healthcare during the Covid-19 pandemic, through the launch of BSL Health Access, is why we recognise James as a worthy inductee to this year’s Hall of Fame.
Dr Audrey Cameron has been inducted for her dedication to enhancing access to education, with a specific focus on STEM fields. She has been the driving force behind the Scottish Sensory Centre’s BSL Glossary project, which provides Deaf and hearing students with the resources to engage in over 3000 STEM signs. Additionally, her commitment to improve access at the University of Edinburgh through their BSL Plan is another illustration of Dr Audrey’s unwavering commitment to improving access for those in the Deaf community.
Congratulations to both James Watson O’Neill and Dr Audrey Cameron and welcome to the Signature Hall of Fame.
This year, we received over 130 nominations for inductees into the Signature Hall of Fame. Within those 130 nominees, there were so many worthy of being inducted, highlighting the quality of the members who are working to improve communication and maximise accessibility.
Lindsay Foster, Executive Director at Signature said: “We are thrilled to induct James and Dr Cameron into the Signature Hall of Fame, both who are thoroughly deserving of this recognition. The number of high quality nominations illustrates the hard work from both people and organisations who are campaigning for equity within society.
We look forward to honouring their achievements through their induction into the Signature Hall of Fame.”
