As the Great British Bake Off came to an end last night (Tuesday 28th November), here at Signature we thought we would take a look back at Tasha Stones’ journey. Tasha should be proud of all of her achievements as she has become a great role model for those who are deaf and those who are hearing.
After a great run in the iconic white tent, Tasha sadly fell at the final hurdle, missing out on a place in the final 3. Tasha had a rocky journey but shone through to win Star Baker two weeks running.
Tasha wowed the judges throughout; however, her baking abilities saw her rise to the top during both Bread Week and Biscuit Week. Tasha’s baking highlights include her Medusa Showstopper (Bread Week) and her ‘Japanese Katsu and Matcha’ illusion (Biscuit Week). Additionally, Tasha’s eye for detail was captured during Cake Week with her incredible Robin Cake Showstopper which had the judges lost for words.
The semi-final was Patisserie Week, where the bakers were tasked with whipping up an elegant French patisserie signature dish, tarte aux pommes technical, and a millefogile showstopper. Tasha impressed the judges with her obscure flavourings that included a “mango mojito” millefogile, however, having finished fourth in the technical it was time for Tasha’s journey to come to an end.
At the end of the show, Tasha expressed her emotions towards being on the show as she stated that, “It’s changed me. I can do so much more than I realised that I was capable of. It’s a special place. I am very lucky to be a part of it”.
On her social media, Tasha shared a heartfelt farewell letter to her fans which stated:
“How do I sum up the best thing that has ever happened to me on this little piece of paper?! The other 11 bakers…well I just love you all to pieces”.
“You’re family forever. There really is nothing quite like this bond! Daryl, Dazza, D-Man…not just my interpreter, but my constant advocate & friend. Our bakers dozen’s 13th member. You always knew when my listening fatigue was creeping in before I did, and I couldn’t have done this without you!”
“Alison & Noel…for the big hugs & even bigger laughs! Prue & Paul…for pushing me to be my best & for all your wisdom. What a masterclass!
“The STELLAR crew – you’re all just out of this world brilliant!!! This is the scariest thing I’ve ever done, but I just wish I could relive it all over again because oh my goodness what a DREAM it was!
“That big white tent has given me so much. THANK YOU! Tasha, Over and out xoxoxo”
We are certain that this won’t be the last that we see of Tasha on our screens. Tasha made it all the way to the semi-final and proved that deaf people can achieve anything they set their mind to. It has been great to see signing on our screens and on such a big platform. We are sure that Tasha is now a deaf role model for many individuals across the UK and beyond.
We wish Tasha the best of luck for the future and hope to see her baking again very soon!
