We are delighted to invite you to an exciting and informative event, “BSL GCSE- Your Questions Answered”, taking place on the 7th of July 2025, from 4pm-6pm at the Royal Association for Deaf People (RAD), Crystal Wharf, London, N1 8GJ.
Hosted by John Walker, Chair of Signature, and Lindsay Foster, Executive Director of Signature, this face-to-face session will enable individuals to understand more about the GCSE and what it could look like in UK schools. The session will also be recorded and shared online, making it accessible to those unable to attend in person.
What to expect?
During this 2-hour session, we will cover a range of important topics:
- How the BSL GCSE qualification could work: Understanding the framework, including assessment criteria set by Ofqual.
- The current workforce: Insights into the challenges and opportunities in delivering BSL education.
- Answers to your questions: Submit questions in advance or ask them on the day.
We’ll also revisit key points raised in Ofqual’s recent BSL GCSE Q&A session and provide follow-up answers to any unresolved queries.
Why should you attend?
The BSL GCSE is an important step forward for inclusivity and recognition of BSL. Example questions we will address include:
- How will assessments aligns with the August results day timeline?
- How will historical and modern BSL vocabulary be evaluated?
- What reasonable adjustments will be made for students with additional needs?
- How can we ensure the “ownership” of BSL by Deaf people remains integral?
