Centres

At Signature, we are proud to be the UK’s leading awarding body for deaf communication and language qualifications. We have supported over 600,000 people in learning British Sign Language (BSL) by delivering the most comprehensive sign language teaching courses.

To do this, our centres and sign language teachers play a vital role — they aim to shape the next generation, empowering thousands of learners across the country to communicate confidently with Deaf and Deafblind individuals.

Whether you’re already a teacher in sign language or are exploring the idea of teaching British Sign Language, we’ve put everything you need to know all in one place so you can start teaching BSL with confidence and our full support.

Becoming a Signature Centre FAQs

How do we apply to become a Signature centre?

Head over to our step-by-step guide on delivering a Signature course to get started with the centre approval process. This document contains everything you need to know.

At a minimum, your BSL teachers should hold a qualification level above the one they are delivering — for example, for BSL Level 1 and BSL Level 2, teachers should hold a Level 3 Standard. For Level 3, 4 and 6, teachers should demonstrate at Level 6. Teachers should also have a recognised teaching qualification. These qualifications must be uploaded to the Iris system.

Yes, you will be able to choose from classroom-based, blended, and fully remote teaching models. However, for the latter, you must be able to demonstrate secure assessment conditions and reliable video for candidate evidence. All of this will be outlined when you contact one of our centres for more information.
