TV Soap Tackles Issue of Childhood Deafness

River City, a Scottish Soap opera on BBC1 Scotland, is tackling the issue of childhood deafness.

The storyline centres on one of the key characters’ son, who has been diagnosed with a unilateral hearing loss by the local GP. The show dramatises the family tensions that can arise around a diagnosis of deafness in typical soap opera style.

We welcome the awareness this storyline will raise and hope it will cause many people to question and challenge stereotypes.
