The following qualification specifications and regulations for 2012 – 13 are now available on our website:
- Level 1 Award in Deaf Awareness and Communication
- Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language
- Level 2 Certificate in Irish Sign Language

There have been no changes to the way you deliver the qualification. Improvements have been made to the content of these qualifications which are detailed below. In each of the qualification specification we have provided a set of essential requirements to demonstrate the required competence in an assessment.
Level 2
We would like to remind centres that candidates no longer choose a topic title on the day of assessment. Teachers will choose a theme at the start of the unit in consultation with the candidate. For units 202 and 203, candidates will be assessed on the first and second choice of the optional themes. A summary of these themes are provided in each unit specification.
DAC1
For unit T101, candidates can now be assessed in either BSL or ISL. T101 course booklets now include references to ISL and the Irish Sign Language Manual Fingerspelling Alphabet.
Assessment regulations
Assessment regulations have been updated and include the new service standards for assessment and certificate results which came into effect 1 December 2011. Candidates taking our assessments will receive their Signature results and certificates more quickly. We have also made it clear on who should be involved in the assessment at the centre.
We are working hard to finalise the qualification specifications for Level 1 Award in British/Irish Sign Language. We will email you as soon as the specifications are ready on the Signature website.
