Update on Campaign for a BSL Bill for Scotland
Added 11 Jan 2013
Last summer, Mark Griffin MSP launched a consultation on introducing a BSL bill for Scotland. In total, 1,192 responses were received. The average is normally around 40. Public sector organisations, deaf groups and hundreds of individuals from across Scotland and beyond made their views known and the feedback was around 98% positive.
Mark said: "I am absolutely delighted by the overwhelming number of people who have had their say on the bill's proposals.
My proposed bill seeks to increase awareness of BSL throughout Scottish society and would go some of the way to breaking down the barriers facing Scotland's Deaf population on a daily basis."
The Scottish parliament non-executive bills unit is now analysing the responses and will produce a formal report soon.
