Liberal Democrats to Discuss British Sign Language

News reaches us at Signature that the Liberal Democrats will have a debate on British Sign Language (BSL) at their autumn conference. The debate on Tuesday 17 September has been prompted by a motion which will ask delegates to vote on the legal status of BSL.

In addition, there is a fringe meeting on the subject of, BSL: Ignorance or Legal Recognition?, being held during the preceding evening. We welcome this development and it illustrates how BSL is rising up the public policy agenda.  For example, Mark Griffin MSP’s proposed BSL bill is progressing well in Scotland.

The conference is being held in Glasgow from Saturday 14 September to Wednesday 18 September.
