ITV’s Code of Silence commences filming

ITV, in collaboration with Mammoth Screen and BritBox, has officially began filming Code of Silence, a gripping six-part crime drama. With Rose Ayling-Ellis taking on a leading role, the series promises intense suspense and intrigue. Written by Catherine Moulton, Code of Silence draws from her personal experiences with lip-reading and hearing loss, weaving these themes into the fabric of the story. The result is a compelling narrative that sets this crime drama apart, making it one to watch.

Code of Silence presents a powerful exploration of the connection between crime and communication, offering a captivating story for viewers. The series will highlight the meaningful representation for the Deaf community, with a diverse cast and crew that includes individuals from Deaf, disabled, and neurodiverse backgrounds.

Rose Ayling-Ellis will be joined alongside Kieron Moore (Vampire Academy, Masters of the Air, The Corps) who will play suspect Liam Bayne, Charlotte Ritchie (Ghosts, You) as DS Ashleigh Francis, and Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch) as DI James Marsh.

Rose will lead the cast, playing the role of Alison Brooks who is a Deaf canteen worker. Rose portrays Alison as an individual who is struggling to make ends meet as she juggles two jobs, the first in the canteen and another in a local bar. Alongside her jobs, Alison supports her Deaf mum, Julie, who is played by Fifi Garfield. Alison’s behind the scene role in the Police sees a change when she is suddenly in the spotlight when she is pulled into a high-stake police investigation. Having developed strong lip-reading skills through caring for her Deaf mother, Alison’s unique ability proves invaluable to the police as they track a dangerous criminal gang. Alison’s once mundane life becomes one fuelled by exhilaration, as she becomes an integral figure in interpreting covert conversations between gang members. Alison’s role soon becomes essential to cracking the code, however, things soon get complicated when she develops feelings for one of the suspects, Liam Bayne (Kieron Moore). Feelings come to the foreground, as Alison struggles to let go, despite acknowledging the rising threat to her personal life.

Polly Hill will oversee production of the series as ITV’s Director of Drama, alongside Bryony Arnold and Damien Timmer, executive producers for Mammoth Screen with Robert Schildhouse and Stephen Nye who are executive producing for BritBox. Directing the latter half of the series will be Chanya Button (Dr Who, World on Fire, Vita & Virginia), with writers Will Truefitt and Benji Walters respectively writing episodes 3&4.
