As part of the government-funded I-Sign 2 Project, Signature were sub-contracted to develop and deliver a qualification for those in the Communication Support Worker (CSW) role in Key Stages 3 or 4, which includes the requirement for BSL Level 3 or the equivalent.
The new Level 3 Certificate in Communication Support will be offered at UCLan. The course is unit-based and designed to give maximum flexibility to those who have prior qualifications and training. As this is a government initiative, there is a limited offer of a 50% fee subsidy for all students who enrol for the first course.
The course is designed for those who:
- want to train as a Communication Support Worker (CSW) with deaf children in secondary education
- already have a post-16 CSW qualification and want to retrain/’top up’ their skills to enable them to work in schools
- are currently Teaching Assistants but want to specialise in order to be able to support deaf children
