Inspiration is the feeling of being mentally stimulated to manifest what we want to create.
Being inspired can give you the ideas and desire you need to:
- solve complex problems
- develop something new and exciting
- change directions in your life.
8 Years ago, when I came to know about my son’s deafness , I have no idea what is deafness and how can I help my son. I was looking for someone who can guide me and just say “ everything will be ok”.
All I was told at that time that Deaf people can’t do anything, they cant speak, they cant work.
My mother has taught me that hard times can be overcome and that losing battles can be won. She has taught me more than I could have learnt from any book. She sets an inspirational example to me teaching me how to live life and make wise choices, even in the most uncertain situations. I wanted to set similar example for my son but I wasn’t able to stand for myself at that time.
After sometime, I started meeting Deaf people and started mingling in deaf community. I started learning BSL and my life suddenly started to change.
For me, whole Deaf community is an inspiration. Even though, everyone (or I must say Hearing world) thinks Deaf people as Disable and there are not much help/support for them, I always find them Smiling, helping and friendly. They never think Hearing people are different. While I was at level 1 and still signs words in Fingerspelling, they always stand with smile and shows lots of patience to understand what I was trying to say. They help me, correct me , stand with me whenever I need them.
People still gets panic attack when they saw Deaf people. I still have my deaf friends who always saw last minute cancelation of interpreter when the go on medical appointment, EHCP review calls etc. Its basic right and still they have to fight for it not just once or twice but every time ..everyday for themselves , for their family.
For me, Deaf community is community of STRONG people who believe in doing work, finding a way when all doors are closed. They are not disabled. They just have different way of communication.
They motivate me and educate me to think that my son can actually do whatever he wants in future, he can go to any university for his studies, he can work in multi national companies like any other normal person.
I saw Punk chef ( Cooking show), Deaf Funny (Comedy), Sign to Win (Thinking skills), there is no field where they cant achieve. They all are inspirations for people like me who thought Deaf people cant do anything. For me Inspiration is my son, who is just 8 years old but still teaches me signs when I am wrong…made me smile and made me forgot all worries about his future.
