Signature Chief Executive Interviewed on BBC See Hear

Signature Chief Executive, Jim Edwards, will appear on BBC See Hear this morning, 20 March. The interview is part of the Tenth Anniversary of Official Recognition of British Sign Language (BSL) celebrations.

In the interview Jim emphasised that the official recognition of BSL in 2003 was an important breakthrough and the culmination of years of campaigning. He also said that the anniversary provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the progress that has been made over the past decade. He added that we should be both proud of our achievements and humble about the challenges that lie ahead.

One of the main topics of discussion was the Signature campaign to give deaf children the opportunity to take a qualification in BSL alongside their GCSEs. This is essential to up-skill the deaf community and bridge the achievement gap between deaf learners and their peers.

You can see the interview this morning at 10.30am on BBC 2.
