John teaches Signature qualifications up to Level 4 NVQ in British Sign Language (BSL) at Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education.
He is an Assessor of Signature qualifications and is currently training to become an Internal Verifier.
In his role as Manager of BSL Services John is a constant support to his team of six teachers and is instrumental in the development of the Academy as a leading provider of BSL training in the South West of England.
Over the years he has taught throughout the local community, schools, colleges, universities, businesses and NHS Departments.
He has a positive impact on his students encouraging them to aim high and taking time to explain the value of improved BSL skills for future career opportunities working with Deaf people.
He is instrumental in the promotion of Signature qualifications at the Academy, producing leaflets, contributing to the website and attending national and regional conferences where services for deaf people are promoted.
A famously kind hearted man John is also involved in fundraising for several charities.
"I have been teaching for 17 years and this award shows how hard I have worked and I am so proud to have been chosen. When my name was called out I was absolutely stunned. These awards are something to be proud of and it is on my shelf for everyone to see. I would like to thank Signature; the evening was brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed myself", said John.
