Remark! are long standing supporters of the Deaf community. They regularly sponsor Deaf initiatives and teams such as the British Deaf Football team. Every year they support the Greenwich Deaf Playscheme which allows disadvantaged young people to access training and play facilities throughout the summer. They have established a free mobility service/Deaf club for older British Sign Language (BSL) users who are isolated within their community. They are committed to improving work opportunities for BSL users and offer free training to BSL users to encourage, where possible, career progression.
Over two thirds of staff at Remark! are BSL users and they use only native BSL users as presenters. Remark! have developed specific technology to improve the quality and access for BSL users to museums and galleries. They are currently producing subtitling software and BSL video players for iTouch players which allow BSL users to visit previously inaccessible attractions. They are working on a pilot for Buckingham Palace, a PDA tour especially created for BSL audiences.
Remark! are leaders in Chroma Keying technology which improves the quality of BSL In-Vision in a mainstream environment. They were the recipients of a coveted Jodi award for their BSL productions with the British Museum and have won various Television Awards for their broadcast work.
Remark! strive to improve the profile of BSL and challenge the stereotypes of Deaf people that hearing communities have.
