Teacher of the Year Award Criteria

Nominations for this award can come from colleagues, employers, peers or friends. Self nominations are also welcome.

To nominate someone for Teacher as the Year, you will need to tell us about them and their work. When completing your nomination, please respond to each of the following sections.

It is important that you answer as many questions, with as much information as possible. Each question will be scored individually.

Section One - Inside the Classroom

Tell us about this teacher’s skill in the classroom.

  • How has the nominee inspired learners?
  • What new ideas, teaching methods, or support materials has the nominee brought to the classroom to help learners?
  • How has the nominee celebrated the success of learners, or encouraged those who haven’t succeeded?
  • How has the nominee encouraged learners to progress with their learning?

Section Two - Outside the Classroom

If you are familiar with this teacher’s work outside the classroom, please tell us about that here.

  • How has the nominee contributed to the wider activities and vision of their centre?
  • How has the nominee supported other teachers/staff within their centre?
  • How has the nominee helped in the promotion of qualifications and courses?
  • How has the nominee contributed to a more accessible society for deaf and deafblind people?
