Deans Community School in Livingston was the scene of recent celebrations as Alan Sanders was rewarded with Signature's regional teacher of the year award for Scotland. He was presented with his award by Signature communications manager for Scotland, Doug Bradley.

The founder of Hands That Talk in Dungiven says she is "honoured" at being nominated for a prestigious award recognising outstanding achievements by people who have made a significant contribution towards a society in which deaf people have full access. Dorothy Hegarty is in the running for a Signature award and The Joseph Maitland Robinson Award for Outstanding Contribution.

England Deaf Rugby Union has been short listed for the prestigious Signature award for those who have done most to overcome the communication barriers deaf people face in everyday life.

A school technician from Broadstone has won a regional award for giving up his time to break down deaf communication barriers. British Sign Language student Jon Hickman came first in the regional heat in the Signature Annual Awards scheme, and now progresses to the final of the Learner of the Year award in London on November 12.
