Sign Language Teacher Up For Top Award

May 29

A signer has been nominated for a prestigious award for helping and supporting deaf children. Gilly Stevens, 39, runs a club for deaf children up to die age of 11 at St Mary's Church Hall in Hanwell. Ms Stevens, of Cuckoo Dene, Hanwell, also signs at the church during mass to make sure deaf people do not miss out on the service. Read more

Regional Learner and Teacher Winners Announced

We are delighted to announce Learner of the Year and Teacher of the Year regional winners for this year's Signature Annual Awards. We have been overwhelmed by the high standard of nominations from across the UK and Ireland. All regional winners have been short listed for the national award. The overall winner will be announced at our glittering awards ceremony in November. Read more

Deaf Drama Group's Award Hope

A Theatre company whose shows are created by and for deaf people is hoping to win a national award. The 3D Theatre Company (Derby Deaf Drama) has worked for 14 years to encourage and support people with disabilities. Now it has put itself forward for the Signature Annual Awards, which recognise work to help deaf people. It is hoping to win the Organisational Achievement Award, which recognises a public, private or voluntary organisation which has made a significant contribution to making society more accessible for deaf people. Liverpool Schoolgirl Nominated for Signature Annual Award

An eight year old girl was nominated for a national award - thanks to her signing skills. Amelia McCabe has been signing since she was a little girl as both of her parents are deaf. The youngster's talents have even stunned her mother, who set up West Derby-based sign language academy Talking Hands. Amelia, from Croxteth, is currently taking her level two exams which are an equivalent to a GCSE. Read more
