Record numbers sign up for deaf awards

Nominations flying in for the Signature Annual Awards scheme. The Signature Annual Awards are designed to recognise and reward those who have made in their own way a significant contribution toward achieving a society in which deaf people have full access. However, with the May 3 deadline for the Learner of the Year and Teacher of the Year categories approaching, there is limited time to ensure that those deserving the recognition receive it and anyone making nominations is urged to do so via the website before it is too late.
Youngsters on the Ball Thanks to Club's Sign Language Programme

Football worker Ryan Williams has made a successful signing after helping develop a new schools programme. The 18-year-old, from the SAFC Foundation, is helping to boost communication skills across Wearside schools with a course that uses football to introduce youngsters to sign language.

With the recent announcement about the Signature Annual Awards it's time to put your thinking caps on and decide who you think is most deserving of recognition this year. Not only could your nomination be chosen as a winner, but you could put them forward as one of our great stories for promotion to your regional press. We're looking for examples of learners, teachers, professionals or organisations that you feel have really excelled and gone the extra mile to try to overcome barriers to communication between deaf and hearing people. These great stories are just the thing to excite the local newspapers and TV stations and get them reporting on the good news coming from your friends, colleagues and your local community.
