Deaf Drama Group's Award Hope

Published in the Derby Telegraph.

A Theatre company whose shows are created by and for deaf people is hoping to win a national award. The 3D Theatre Company (Derby Deaf Drama) has worked for 14 years to encourage and support people with disabilities.

Now it has put itself forward for the Signature Annual Awards, which recognise work to help deaf people. It is hoping to win the Organisational Achievement Award, which recognises a public, private or voluntary organisation which has made a significant contribution to making society more accessible for deaf people.

The nomination will be judged by Signature, which gives accredited qualifications in signed languages and other methods of communication used by deaf and deaf-blind people.

Signature chief executive Jim Edwards said: "We've been thrilled by the variety of individuals and organisations engaging with the scheme. We want to achieve a society in which deaf people experience no communication barriers."

The short list will be announced in July.
