Melanie signs on to help health workers

A SIGN language tutor is helping professionals in Wigan to learn to communicate with deaf people.

Melanie Potts, from Firs Lane, Leigh, is teaching signing to dozens of health workers, paramedics and lawyers so they can interact with people with hearing problems.

Melanie holds classes at schools and community centres across the borough as well as organising her own sign language club.

Her work has been recognised with a second consecutive nomination for this year's Tutor of the Year Award from deaf charity Signature.
