Award for John - a real good sign!
Many people deserve recognition of their dedicated efforts to overcome barriers to communication between deaf and hearing people. Signature Annual Awards provide that recognition by acknowledging those whose contribution moves us all further toward achieving a society in which deaf people have full access.
The winner of this year's prestigious award has been announced as local man, John Connolly, caretaker at St. Brigid's National School, Convoy.
Signature is a registered charity that promotes excellence in communication. Its awards, inaugurated last year to great acclaim, aim to recognise those who have, in their own way, made a significant contribution towards a society in which deaf and deaf blind people have full access.
John was nominated for the award by his teacher Richard McFadden who describes him as an outstanding student and an excellent team member.
"He is a very capable, willing and devoted student showing enthusiasm and fun. John has volunteered much of his time to supporting fundraising activities and attending deaf events to broaden his knowledge of the deaf community. He is a volunteer with the RNID Befriending service, a true reflection of his caring nature. John is an excellent ambassador for the deaf community, relentlessly encouraging others to learn British Sign Language and deaf culture."
