Congratulations to Owen Wright for becoming the Signature NE region learner of the year!
Owen is a learner with Middlebrough Adult Education Service and has completed a Level 1 and Level 2 course in British Sign Language, the language of Britain's Deaf community.
Barbara Casson, co-ordinator for BSL classes, was so impressed with his enthusiasm, determination and hard work on the courses that she nominated him for a Learner of the Year Award from Signature.
Signature champions excellence in communication with deaf people and the awards are designed to recognise those who have made in their own way a significant contribution towards achieving a society in which deaf people have full access. The quality of entries has impressed judges who have been tasked with drawing up the shortlist from the overwhelming number of nominations received.
