Award Winner Has a Way With Words

Story from the Jersey Evening Post.

Jerseyman Robert Le Masur has been named as the UK's leading teacher of British sign language at a national awards ceremony. Mr Le Masurier, who works with age-groups, is the only qualifed teacher of both level one and level two certificates for BSL in the Island.

He was given the prestigious award at a ceremony in London organised the charity Signature, which promotes excellence in communication with deaf and deafblind people. Signature chief executive Jim Edwards said that the teacher of year category had had many high quality nominations for the award. Picking a shortlist had been hard work, he added, and selecting a winner had been even more difficult.

Mr Edwards said: "Robert really stood out for his numerous achievements in Jersey and the extent to which he goes out of his way to bridge the communication gap between deaf and hearing people in the Island."
