Signs Are Good For Our Teacher

Story from the Nottingham Event Post.

A Notts tutor has scooped an award for his commitment to teaching sign language.

John Smith from West Notts College in Mansfield, won a regional heat in the Signature Annual Awards scheme and progresses to the final in London on November 12.

John uses a variety of teaching methods to make his students feel relaxed and build their confidence when signing. He has also made several videos of friends signing to promote deaf awareness.

John will be among 12 candidates hoping to be crowned Signature's first ever Teacher of the Year at the ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in London. Signature chief executive Jim Edwards said: "John is an encouraging teacher of sign language."
